So I will admit that I have been slightly addicted to watching the live feed for the AQHYA World show this year. I have never been one to really watch the live feed of horse shows in the past, but I did manage to catch the finals of some of the SMS, HMS, & Trail so far. I even watched some of the goes from the Eq prelims. Watching the finals inspires me to work even harder with Woody to prepare ourselves for Congress this year. Though I get this nagging thought in the back of my head not to expect much since this is will be our first time at Congress and there is a lot going on there! But I will continue to strive for our best and prepare as well as I can!
Today one of the youth kids from our state was awarded with Reserve World Champion in Trail!! WTG Katie Jo!
Hopefully I will have another post soon regarding my second show of the season, the Spring Break Out that took place in March. It was a very good show for us;)

Vital Signs Are Good sold to Moran family....
Last night someone asked on the PHF if she had sold as rumors had been circulating since Congress. Many were speculating, stating that yes this legendary mare had sold. People were throwing prices around ranging from $750,000 to $1.2 million! Eventually GoHorseShow.com reported last night, that yes the Moran family bought VSAG and she will be under the guidance of Jason Martian and Charlie Cole of High Point Performance Horses.
Kristen & VSAG have won numerous World & Congress championships, now their era is over and a new era will begin with Theresa on board. Congrats to Kristen on all the past success and to Theresa on all her future success!!

The beginning of my boot fetish....
First off, I finally rode Woody on Friday and he went great!! I was a little worried about his back still being sore and that he would act up in the Skeeters work saddle, but he didn't do anything. Yeah!!! Connie commented that he looked much better, just as good as he has looked after getting chiro work done.
On Sunday I decided to go the January Sale in Lexington, VA. Mikhail and Mikayla accompanied me and we had a great time, well for the most part. Mikayla was semi excited when we got there, but I think she grew bored after awhile. Mikhail on the other hand was interested and made comments about the horses that where in the ring. I think he is developing an eye for good horses, but he has a long way to go. He really wants to try riding, so I think one of these days I am going to let him get up on Woody so he can see what it's all about.
My mission for the sale was to get some new riding jeans and a pair of boots. I got half of my mission accomplished with the purchase of the following boots.
They are Antelope leather Lucchese and are sooo comfy!! I decided just to wear them after I bought them and my feet did not hurt at all. I already want more! Of course none of the vendors had any jeans that I could try on to see how they fit. I hate having to order over the Internet net and then have to send them back because they do not fit right. I was also able to get my hat shaped as well, so that is one less thing to worry about before I ever show.
Most people close to me, know that I have a shoe addiction. I have over 100 pairs of shoes in my closet. Since I just got back into riding this past year, my boot collection is no existent. Currently I only have three pairs, which includes the boots I just bought. I already have plans to buy these:
I love the color of these!! I haven't seen these in person, but they look like they would match chocolate chaps nicely and a boot collection is not complete without a pair of exotic skin boots!
I tried these on already, but they are goat skin and seemed a little tight and I would of needed a wide width for them to be comfortable so I opted for the other ones instead. I think these would be good for dying purposes for a pair of showmanship boots or just another pair to wear about the barn. I really liked the stitching on the shaft of these the most.
I did watch some of the horses go through the sale. Prices were really low and all over the place as usual. Some really nice horses went for less then they are worth. Some not so nice horses went for more then they where worth because of their color. A lot of horses were no saled. There was a Willy Be Invited gelding, the same age as Woody go for $7600. But the other WBI horses went pretty low, especially a yearling that went for half of the breeding fee.
I went out to the barn on Sunday to ride as well. Of course I was wearing my new boots!!! Everyone ended up showing at about the same time so the ring was busy, but I like the traffic so I can get Woody accustomed to it. We had another good ride. I think I could finally feel him rounding more at the lope and getting underneath himself. Connie commented that she could finally see him getting under himself on the right lead, which is his good direction. Maybe he really does have PSSM and the change in feed is just starting to take effect now. I was told it could take 4-6 weeks to see a difference.

Another loss for the industry.....
The country is facing difficult times. Many people are feeling the squeeze, including those in the QH industry. Over the past year I have read many threads on PH regarding cutting costs, ways to save money, how to show on a budget, etc. Early on, a lot of this stemmed from high gas prices. For many it was too expensive to show the same circuits they did the prior show season. Many were only going to shows that had large numbers in the hopes of big pointed classes. Some stopped showing QH all together and went to the Open show scene where one could typically win enough money during the show to pay for the show and then some. And then there were some that stopped showing all together and turned their horses out so they could just be horses.
I remember a couple months ago someone posted on PH about a local company that had a tack store and trailer sales that went under. Now recently another company has gone bankrupt, but this one is a much larger chain, one that owns Sergeants Western World. It was announced at the beginning of November that this company was going bankruptcy proceedings and that on November 26, they would start liquidating all the merchandise at their stores, about $70 million worth. Unfortunately due to this they stopped processing orders online and over the phone.
I must admit I was pretty disappointed that I could no longer order from Sergeants. I had just sent my Mom a list of stuff that I wanted from there for Christmas and of course she hadn't ordered anything yet. But overall I am upset to see yet another company fall victim to this economy.
I wish that I lived in Texas or that there was a Sergeants close to me so I could do some shopping. I was able to shop there once when I went to the Youth World in fort Worth in 1997. I was in heaven and wished we had a store like it where I lived. After that visit I frequently found myself circling items I wanted in the catalog.
Now ten years later, things changed drastically in tack retailers. SLT is not the same company as it was. I remember SLT being more like how Schneiders is now, a store that carried everything for horse owners at an affordable price. I remember my parents ordering many things through them for me. I believe they even got a couple of my old Hobby Horse outfits through them. Another retailer I feel has changed is Millers. I remember drooling over every page of the Millers catalog, now I feel Millers is no different then the current SLT.
Those were the days.....now only if I can find equipment carriers similar to the ones Sergeants had for around the same price.
